Olympic champion in high jump Yaroslava Maguchih announced her ambitions to beat her own world record. The athlete shared her plans to break the Olympic record and "inscribe the Ukrainian name there."
"I will say this, if my first Olympic Games were held in 2021, then in 2024 - the first trials after the world record. After them, preparations for Los Angeles will begin," Maguchih said, reports sport.ua.
Yaroslava said that after setting the world record, she needed a lot of time to recover. "The body spent so much energy on it that I just walked for four days and could not do anything. Although mentally I was already ready for this height. And physically, yes, even earlier, when she jumped 2.06 indoors and 2.05 in Brussels. But then, perhaps, psychologically, she was not so stable," the athlete explained.
Maguchih noted that she is ready for new achievements and intends to surpass her world record. "Now I'm ready and I want to surpass 2.10, but this is a record. This is the height that people sometimes jump once and that's it. But I want higher. I think it is possible to jump up to 2.15 - there is such strength," the champion added.
We will remind that on July 7, Maguchih set a new world record in high jump at the stage of the Diamond League in Paris, overcoming a height of 2.10 meters and breaking the 37-year-old record set by Stefka Kostadinova.
Also at the Olympic Games in Paris, Ukrainian athletes Yaroslava Maguchih and Iryna Herashchenko won gold and bronze medals in high jump, overcoming heights of two meters and 1.95 meters, respectively.
