President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky registered in the Verkhovna Rada a bill on the military Ombudsman. The project is submitted with an urgent mark for priority.
The initiative envisages the establishment of a military Ombudsman and the relevant office under the President. The new body will be engaged in the protection of the rights of servicemen, as well as exercising democratic civil control in the security and defense sector in accordance with the Law on National Security of Ukraine.
According to the document, the Ombudsman and his deputies will be appointed personally by the President.
The Presidential Commissioner for the Protection of Military Rights Olga Reshetilov stressed that it is the person and his rights and freedoms that is the main thing that distinguishes Ukraine from the aggressor country:
"This is our fundamental priority and that will eventually help us win."
The bill also outlines the procedure for filing complaints by military personnel, the procedure for inspections in parts and bodies of military administration, the preparation of the conclusions of the Ombudsman, as well as to interact with other state structures.
