A city council official in Dnipro has been exposed for overpaying millions for electricity for schools and kindergartens. According to police and cyber police, the city budget lost over 7.5 million hryvnias due to the signatures of the deputy director of one of the departments.
The woman signed a contract with the company to purchase electricity for educational institutions, after which the company initiated additional agreements with price increases several times. The official signed documents without proper verification, which led to significant financial losses.
She has been reported as suspected under the article on official negligence. Law enforcement officers are currently deciding on the choice of a preventive measure.
This case is added to a series of high-profile city expenses: previously, the Dnipro City Hall spent almost 32 million hryvnias on repairing the water supply on Bekhtereva Street, and also completed the insulation of house No. 118 on Peremozh for 85 million hryvnias. Meanwhile, PrivatBank is preparing to re-put up for sale the Dnipro Arena and the FC Dnipro base in Prydniprovsk.
The abuses demonstrate the serious risks of careless signing of documents when working with budget funds, especially in the field of education, where finances should be directed to the needs of children and educational institutions.
