The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has initiated criminal proceedings against the head of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi. This decision was made on the basis of the decision of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HCCA) dated July 17, 2024. Journalists of Kommersant Ukrainskyi report about this situation.
According to official information from NABU, the proceedings were registered under Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for responsibility for legalization (laundering) of property obtained through criminal means. The bureau clarified that the investigation was started after receiving a statement about the alleged commission of a criminal offense by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.
VAX position
VAKS decided to oblige NABU to open criminal proceedings against Kudrytskyi under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including Art. 209, Art. 364 (abuse of power or official position) and Art. 368 (receipt of unlawful benefit). The decision of the court was based on the appeal of the inaction of authorized persons of NABU regarding the failure to enter information about a possible offense in the Unified State Register of Pretrial Investigations (ERDR).
The circumstances of the investigation
The media reports that NABU is investigating several episodes related to Kudrytskyi's activities as the head of Ukrenergo. Among them is the formation of bad debts for the company due to the free supply of electricity to the United Energy company and the purchase of bulletproof vests at inflated prices.
Kudrytsky's reaction
Volodymyr Kudrytsky believes that the opening of proceedings against him is "an attempt to create an informational pretext and a plot". According to him, the case was opened after the VAKS decision of July 17, and it concerns the purchase of body armor by the state enterprise.
The proceedings against Kudrytsky gain resonance against the background of the latest scandals in the state-owned companies of Ukraine. Next, it will be seen whether the NABU investigation will be able to shed light on possible violations and abuses by the management of Ukrenergo.
